Bless The Broken Road Lyrics

I set out on a narrow way many years ago
Hoping I would find true love along the broken road

Wiped my brow and kept pushing through
I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to you

This was the song me and my ex girlfriend had as 'our song'. The way we saw it, God led him on a path from his past relationships to the love of his life. The 'road' is a metaphor for the course your life takes and that when you meet that special person, you've truely been blessed.

I believe this song is a praise song being sung to Jesus. It only talks about romantic relaionships from the past, not the present. Jesus has loving arms, God blesses us when He finds us worthy to travel a broken road which leads us to His son; the only true source for peace, love, and salvation.

That certainly is an interesting interpretation, and it may very well be true, but looking at it from the lay man perspective I get a totally different meaning.
To me the song is a person thanking the lord for all the mistakes and people in his past who, while they may have hurt him, have made him who he is. It is probably because of who he is that he ends up meeting the love of his life.
Just what the song seems to keep repeating meaning wise to me...

I heard two of the songwriters discuss what led them to write the song. They had each been married before which did not work out. Those broken marriages resulted in them finding true love with each other.

I think this song is about my life to my cousin Philip, it’s very personal and emotional, because this song reminds me of my cousin Andrew. How much I love him. I always have my house around with my personal family, my dad, Matthew, Sharon, Eddie, Jake, my mom. I’ve never had a family before!

It can mean a broken relationship that led you to a new one, but, it can also mean you're so far away from home and can't back, so God help you through the broken road to lead you to a new life.

The song to me means that everything happens for a reason. God has a special plan for everyone of us. You have to go through the heartache to know what true love is. People go though relationships, maybe thinking they are the one just to find out they were wrong. They knew God had put someone here for them and they would eventually find their special person. They just had to listen to their heart and trust in God. I am in the same boat as this person. After two failed marriages and I have found the one person for me with out even looking. I fell hard and quick for this women. Going through what I have gone through makes me realize what true love means and what it feels like inside. Thank you God for leading me to her.

If you've never listened to this song it's a must! To sum it up it's about how when one door closes another opens. Though it's not always about taking the easy road sometimes we need to experience certain things in life for whatever the reason. Maybe to help us decide what is really right for us. Somehow you always end up right where your supposed to be or right next to the person you belong with.

Beautiful song! So true for so many of us. Sometimes in life we must make mistakes, fall a little, maybe even have a not so good relationship. All of this happens to us for a reason. It leads us to where/who we are really meant to be or be with. I would love to play this song for someone special to me but sadly never will be able to. Still a beautiful song.

Wow! I can listen to this over and over and over again. I love music of all genres but this has to be one of the best. It just is so moving the words, his voice I love it. Makes me cry. A beautiful song of what it took and what you had to go through to get to that true love. :)

I think it is saying that he was hurt in the past but from that he became stronger and found his true love. Then they end up being happier than ever together <3

all I am going to say is this. I close my eyes everytime I hear this song and all I see is me dancing at my wedding. ( mind you I never want to get married) this song just touches me. It gives people hope letting us know that you have to go through hell to find happiness

The writer sees gratitude for a path filled with hardship, mistakes, and relationships filled with heartache in order to understand God. Without these experiences, he would have not experienced God or his intended path that is destined for him. This song contains a double meaning where he also refers to the broken road leading to the right relationship in the end meaning that it was necessary afterall...

As I see it, this song is an argument for fate or destiny as well as an argument against regrets which uses 'the road' as a metaphore for the path his life has taken. One could also argue that this song is advocating optimisim over pesimisim. To me this song is about looking at the positives in your life instead of focussing on the negatives. In my opinion, the author is clearly saying that he does not regret any of the 'long lost dreams' or 'others who broke his heart' because each one of those steps on the road brought him closer to his ultimate destiny with his true love. Furthermore, he is saying that he does not regret his past choice and or mistakes because they have made him who he is today and without them, he may not have ended up in his current happy ending with his soulmate. Think about it, if the author were to go back in time and change one bad choice, he might completely change the course of events that would ultimately lead him to his true love and thus he might actually never have met his true love at all. The moral of this story is that every road in life has a toll, and the pain you endure on the road is the price you pay for getting to your destination. If you leave the road to avoid the toll you may not ever get to where you were meant to go. That is just my 2 cents.

I think about the years I spent just passing through
I'd like to have the time I lost and give it back to you
But you just smile and take my hand
You've been there you understand
It's all part of a grander plan that is coming true

Every long lost dream led me to where you are
And others who broke my heart they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
